The Meaning of BIOM

BIOM provides a combination of experiences, and the name itself represents those experiences.

Relationships. One aspect of the name is based on the ecological idea of a “biome,” a place where life is experienced as a combination of interdependent relationships. At BIOM, we work to create an ecology of body, mind, and spirit that promotes and supports your health and well-being—including the “biome of relationships you’re part of: at work, at school, at home, and on your Way.

Oriental Medicine. We’re located on Bainbridge Island, WA, so “BIOM” also refers to “Bainbridge Island Oriental Medicine.”

Mindfulness. BIOM is also a “conscious place for health and well-being”; and a key aspect to being “conscious,” is to be “mindful.” Because the foundation of what we practice, facilitate, and teach at BIOM focuses on being mindful, BIOM also stands for the “Bainbridge Institute of Mindfulness.”

Meditative Martial Arts

This combination of Tai Chi Chuan, Aikido, Pa Kua Chuan, and Chi Kung shows you how to approach day-to-day challenges with a warrior spirit, tempered with a meditative perspective.

At BIOM you can learn how to use the meditative martial arts in ways that meet your particular needs, interests, and personality, and how to apply them—at work, at school, at home, and on your way.

A Blended Experience
Meditative Martial Arts at BIOM is a blended experience that includes:

  • Tai Chi Chuan
  • Aikido
  • Pa Kua Chuan
  • Chi Kung

  • These meditative martial arts are taught and practiced with the intention of cultivating and combining a meditative perspective and a martial perspective.

These practices and perspectives—which gave traditional warriors the capacity to face life and death situations with a calm, alert, and focused body and mind—are available for you to use today: at work, at school, at home, and on your way.
