A Flowering. Many interesting things have
been happening 'along the way' at BIOM this summer:
including two new websites we've created for staying
in touch, and communicating useful information that
can benefit you as you continue 'along your way.'
Of Relationships.
A "biome" is a place where life is experienced as a
combination of interdependent relationships. As a
married couple, in our 'biome' at BIOM, each of us
have our own unique way of doing things, and living
our lives; at the same time we have a relationship
that combines individualities to generate a synergy
where "our whole is greater than the sum of our
parts." In our conversations, we invite one another
into our separate places, the unique interior where
the other dwells. And now, that we've "remodeled"
BIOM 'online,' we're able to invite you in too!
And you're always invited to stop by BIOM - A
Conscious Place for Health & Well-being.
Wishing you health & well-being

Lao Xian's Teahouse

A restful stop 'along the way,' there's always
something going on at Lao Xian's teahouse. In the
early morning, Chi Kung, a cup of tea, and quiet
preparation for the day ahead; healing and health
consultations throughout the day; and in the
evening, more Chi Kung, another cup of tea, and a
sip of quiet appreciation for another day.
Your hostess is Lao Xian - a Chinese name
meaning 'Ancient Immortal.' At Lao Xian's Teahouse,
Kitty
Bradshaw embodies the spirit of Lao Xian, and in
practical and inspiring ways, offers helpful insights
that can heal the body and nourish the spirit.

The Dojo

"Dojo" is a Japanese word comprised of two
syllables: "Do" which means Way, and "Jo," which
means place. (In Chinese, the word for "Do" is the
more familiar "Tao.") So a "dojo" is a place where you
learn or practice the "Way."
The common use of the word "dojo" in English refers
to a place where the meditative martial arts are
learned and practiced. The dojo is cared for by a
person called "sensei" - a Japanese word that can
be translated as "helper," "guide," or "teacher." Michael
Kessler is the sensei at the BIOM dojo.
As you learn more about how the meditative martial
arts are practiced and experienced at BIOM, you'll
come to see the world as your "dojo," and find out
more about wise warrior ways for meeting the
challenges that meet you.

The Meaning of BIOM

BIOM provides a combination of experiences, and the
name itself represents those experiences.
Relationships. One aspect of the name is
based on the ecological idea of a "biome," a place
where life is experienced as a combination of
interdependent relationships. At BIOM, we work to
create an ecology of body, mind, and spirit that
promotes and supports your health and well-being -
including the "biome of relationships you're part of: at
work, at school, at home, and on your Way.
Oriental Medicine. We're located on
Bainbridge Island, WA, so "BIOM" also refers
to "Bainbridge Island Oriental Medicine."
Mindfulness. BIOM is also a "conscious place
for health and well-being"; and a key aspect to
being "conscious," is to be "mindful." Because the
foundation of what we practice, facilitate, and teach
at BIOM focuses on being mindful, BIOM also stands
for the "Bainbridge Institute of Mindfulness."
