Tulip power. As Spring continues to unfold,
we've been watching the tulips we planted last year
unfold also. Expanding -- up from the root-bulb,
through the stem, and radiating color and fragrance;
opening and closing according to the conditions -- a lot
like you and us.
This month's articles contain some ideas about how to
bring more "tulip" power into your life, to begin -- or
continue -- to blossom both personally and
professionally.
Wishing you health & well-being

It's Springing Up!
During the month of May, Spring is in full blossom. "Chi -
life - force - energy" has a "springy" quality to it --
outside and inside of you. The energies associated with
the Wood element are peaking, and from a 5 Element
point of view, your health will benefit if you employ
some Chi Kung and 5 Element Diet and Nutrition to help
balance out the seasonal impacts on your Liver and
Gallbladder.
If you're feeling particularly "jittery" (which is common
during this time of year), acupuncture, acupressure
and Chinese medical herbs will provide relief.
How Are You Feeling?
You may find that during Spring you're more susceptible
to illnesses or discomforts, like: fatigue, digestive
problems, skin problems, lung problems, insomnia, and
high blood pressure. If you are, there are many things
you can do on your own to help
balance and tonify the Liver to relieve Spring-related
ailments.

Healthy, Balanced Breakfasts
Kitty presented another session in her ongoing series --
5 Element Diet & Nutrition. A group of us got
together to learn about the "Five Element" approach to
healthy diet and nutrition, and to see, smell, and taste
the techniques that result in nutritious, balanced,
energizing breakfasts.
On the menu were well-balanced portions of
nurturing information and nourishing food. Seven
simple and unique breakfast meals -- which
everyone got to sample and discuss -- were freshly
prepared using Taoist Five Element principles.

The Human Tree
Last month in The Root of the Matter we
talked about the experience of "rooting" -- that clear
sense and feeling in your body and mind, that enables
you to be steady, dependable and resolute. This month
we'll take a closer look at the experience
of "rootedness," and "bring up" centering and balance.
Centered and Balanced
I say "bring up" in the sense that a tree uses its roots
to draw nutrients up from the earth. It uses those
nutrients to form its trunk, branches, and foliage --
which in turn, press down on the roots, which
distribute this weight and enable the tree to balance
itself.
And all through this process of pulling up, and pressing
down, -- (inhale/exhale) -- a centerpoint emerges: the
mid-point between the roots (feet) and the crown
(head). And through a subtle flexibility, the tree is able
to shift it's weight -- to move its centerpoint, to
balance
itself in relation to the forces pressing against it.
The Tree in Me
Like the tree, I can only be "rooted" if I'm centered and
balanced; and if I'm centered and balanced, I'm
automatically rooted.

Springing Monkey
It's the Year of the Monkey -- and as it gets warmer,
the Monkey is getting more animated. Spring means
Liver energy is maximizing in all of us, and since the
Monkey is a bit hyper by nature, we're all feeling a bit
more frenzied this Spring, as compared to other years.
So what can you do to stay healthy and balanced,
while Monkey is springing around?
To start, put
more attention into being rooted, centered, and
balanced -- in your diet, exercise, and business. And, if
you find yourself in a tense, anxious, or
panicked moment, count slowly to ten before you act:
good advice anytime, but especially this time of year.
That's all for now. Be well, and we look forward to
hearing from you!
