It's still cold on Bainbridge Island, but gradually
warming. Daylight is slowly returning around Puget
Sound, and the daffodils are surprisingly high for
mid-winter. We're still sitting and talking around the
woodstove, drinking oolong and pu-erh teas to warm
the body and clarify the mind. And as usual, the
conversation turns to things people can do to stay
healthy, and appreciate the feeling of well-being that
comes with it --when you take the time to feel it.
Take a look below for some tips on staying healthy for
the rest of the winter, and find out what's been
happening at BIOM to celebrate and get in sync with
the Spirit of Winter.
Wishing you health & well-being ...

Coping With Winter Cold
We're in the middle of Winter in the northern
hemisphere, and people coming to BIOM are saying that
they'd like to have more energy -- and more resistance
to the "bugs" Winter brings. Addressing this need, Kitty
did a four-hour workshop in January called "Coping With
Winter Cold." She discussed important concepts for
staying healthy, and then led the group in a practice
session of invigorating, relaxing and balancing Winter
Chi Kung exercises like: Crane Breathing, Rooting Like a
Tree, and Flowing Chi. Everybody got warm and
energized -- inside and out. A healthy time was
enjoyed by all.

Tai Chi Master Visits BIOM
BIOM had the unique pleasure of hosting a get-away in
February for a highly accomplished Tai Chi master
(Cheng Man Ching Yang style) and his companion. They
came to enjoy a relaxing and rejuvenating mid-winter
retreat at BIOM on Bainbridge Island to balance and
beautify their bodies and minds with Oriental Medicine,
Facial Rejuvenessensce -- and some good, old-
fashioned, healthy "downtime."
An amazing thing about Tai Chi is that it benefits you
whether you're doing it yourself, or just watching
someone else enter into this soothing dance of health
and well-being ...

Lao Xian Celebrates Winter Kaiseki
BIOM and Lao Xian's Tea House sponsored a Kaiseki
dinner at the Bainbridge Island Sushi House to
celebrate the Spirit of Winter and The Chinese New
Year -- The Year of the Monkey.
Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese seasonal meal,
poetically seasoned, and served to celebrate special
occasions. These seasonal foods are uniquely arranged
and presented on dishes that summon the spirit of the
season. The delectable moment extends from the
chef's cutting board to your plate -- where you pause
to appreciate the presentation, and the presence in
the room, digesting the essence of Winter.

The Year Of The Monkey
The Monkey's natural talent for learning and
advancement; its intelligence and confidence; and its
flexibility, agility, and ability to innovate, lead toward
success and joie de vivre. The energetic forces lining
up this year make the Monkey's qualities and strengths
available to you-all you have to do is loosen-
up, "monkey around," and be open to the possibilities
as they appear.
So open your Heart, let the Spirit of the Monkey move
you, then watch as the possible becomes real. And be
careful not to overreach, or take too much pride in
your accomplishments-after all, you don't want to be
a monkey in a cage.
