A Conversation With My Friend
I have a very wise friend whose insights have benefited me since I was a very young man; and I continue to enjoy his wise counsel and I step deeper and deeper into my life. And since you and I are talking while walking along our ways, I thought you might want to hear some of what my friend has to say.
Check back here from time to time, and become part of the conversation.
Embarking On The Journey
Joseph Campbell, the mythologist, and Robert Frost, the poet, both pointed to the “path” each person needs to find for themself, and follow, if throughout, and at the end of the journey called “Life” you are to feel and be guided by a sense of purpose that sustains in the mundance tasks, and in more special moments, transports to that higher level of consciounsess of which the mythologist evokes and the poet sings ...
The Mythologist Evokes:
“They thought that it would be a disgrace to go forth as a group.
Each entered the forest at a point that he himself had chosen,
where it was darkest and there was no path. If there is a path it is
someone else’s path and you are not on the adventure.”
The Poet Sings:
“I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
The Meaning of BIOM
BIOM provides a combination of experiences, and the name itself represents those experiences.
Relationships. One aspect of the name is based on the ecological idea of a “biome,” a place where life is experienced as a combination of interdependent relationships. At BIOM, we work to create an ecology of body, mind, and spirit that promotes and supports your health and well-being—including the “biome of relationships you’re part of: at work, at school, at home, and on your Way.
Oriental Medicine. We’re located on Bainbridge Island, WA, so “BIOM” also refers to “Bainbridge Island Oriental Medicine.”
Mindfulness. BIOM is also a “conscious place for health and well-being”; and a key aspect to being “conscious,” is to be “mindful.” Because the foundation of what we practice, facilitate, and teach at BIOM focuses on being mindful, BIOM also stands for the “Bainbridge Institute of Mindfulness.”
