About “The Dojo” at BIOM
Welcome to The Dojo at BIOM. Thank you for coming!
“Dojo” is a Japanese word comprised of two syllables: “Do” which means Way, and “Jo,” which means place. (In Chinese, the word for “Do” is the more familiar “Tao.") So a “dojo” is a place where you learn or practice the “Way.”
Meditative Martial Arts
The common use of the word “dojo” in English refers to a place where the meditative martial arts are learned and practiced. The dojo is cared for by a person called “sensei” — a Japanese word that can be translated as “helper,” “guide,” or “teacher.” Michael Kessler is the sensei at the BIOM dojo.

The meditative martial arts teach you how to manage fear, and can inspire your sense of justice. These wise warrior ways are accessible to everyone—regardless of age, gender, or other seeming impediment. By understanding them you come to see the world as your “dojo.”
